At Kasturi English Language School (KELS), our aim is to provide students with the fundamental English language skills required to progress to academic courses, from pre-university programmes right up to PhD studies.
Admission
All students are required to sit for a placement test to determine their level of English language proficiency.
Duration
9 weeks and there is a 1 week break between terms.
Some basic information
The English courses offered at KELS cater specifically to international students from non-English speaking countries. Students must enroll in at least 2 courses/ or levels (18 weeks) to qualify for student visas before progressing in to the desired Academic programmes.

In addition, new students will be reassessed over the 1st week and moved up or down to the appropriate level.

* Basic English Literacy course for students who enter the programme with very little exposure to English and need time to familiarise
themselves with the sounds and alphabet of the English language.

Academic Calendar
KELS runs courses on two different cycles: A and B. Each term lasts 9 weeks and there is a 1 week break between terms. Please refer to the Academic Calendar 2010.

In the programme, students are assessed as follows:
MID COURSE QUIZ (Weeks 4 &5)
Students are also given a mid course quiz. The main purpose of this quiz is for teachers to assess students’ progress up to midterm. In addition, the mid course quiz aims to allow students to assess how they are doing on the course
The mid course quiz is organised as follows:

Students are also given a Speaking grade based on their performance in class.
